 inviting for shabbos

When inviting for shabbos there is 2 schools of thought how to go about it

  1. If they are in walking distance than one could strait out invite . If outside walking distance, offer a place to stay over Shabbos, (even if you know they won't accept.) or just inform them of  the meal or shul

  1. For someone totally unaware of keeping shabbos - Staying at home they’re also being mechalel shabbos every minute. And they aren’t keeping shabbos at all. They don’t even think about shabbos. Lights, phone, TV, cooking, etc

When you invite them to Shul/ Meal, you aren’t causing them to be michalel shabbos  by driving  to Shul any more than they would otherwise. Aderaba, this will be the only time they will keep - and think about - shabbos.

(many other Poskim don't consider it an issue of Lifnei Iver, but the Rebbe actually does. Hence according to the Rebbe if one is outside walking distance you need to find a solution to the Lifnei Iver issue.

The only question is you avoiding לפני עור and any other side issues (maybe chilul Hashem etc).)

1) there was a crossfire at a JLI Shabbaton, where Rabbis Shochat (England) and Nisan Mangel debated this.

2) not always, but often (in many conversations) many Shluchim give a response based on their Shlichus situation - for example a Shliach whose entire Makom Hashlichus is 3 Sq miles, VS someone whose closest Yid is 5 miles away. Plus, the Yidishkeit knowledge level, etc.

Shabbos Meals

To make Shabbos meals special, it's important to prepare for them, even if it's just at home.

Some people might feel more at ease in larger community gatherings rather than in one-on-one settings with the shluchim.

Prepare for the Shabbos meal by planning a dvar Torah, a story, songs, or games. It's also helpful to decide beforehand who will assist with serving and cleanup, perhaps even considering hiring a waiter for larger gatherings. Involving your kids can enhance the experience, and don't forget to manage your time well.

Themed Shabbos events, such as Chinese night or a color-themed meal, can add an extra element of enjoyment.

Games like JLI's "How Jew You Think" can be a great way to stimulate conversations and connections during the meal.

When someone offers to contribute something to the meal, a simple and gracious response can be, "Thanks, but you don't need to bring anything except yourself and a smile."

TGI Shabbos

Thank g-d its shabbos is a monthly program

One of the benefits is that  introduces minyan davening and one gets a different crowd then by the day

Kaboals shabbos is short and there is a lot of singing that everyone likes
